III. Examples of Conversion from The Book of Acts

A. Explanation of the chart (p. 4)

1. Before Christ ascended into heaven He commissioned His apostles to go into all the world and preach the gospel (Mk. 16:15-16; Matt. 28:18-20). As we study the book of Acts we learn how the apostles fulfilled this commission. The examples of conversion give us insight as to what Christ authorized the apostles to preach in telling men what they must do to be saved by the blood of Christ.

2. The left-hand column is a list of eight cases of conversion.

3. To the right of each is noted everything specifically stated which these men and women did to be saved; if blank, the command was not specified.

B. Conclusions

1. Since God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34-35), His commandments for salvation are the same to all men.

2. Preaching and Baptism are specified in every case.

a. Though some steps are not mentioned, these two are always specified by God.

b. Preaching and baptism are not more important than faith, repentance, and confession, for all are essential. But as though in answer to the omission of these by modern preachers, God's book has been specific that both hearing the gospel and baptism into Christ are necessary.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

No question is more important than this. We make many important decisions in life regarding matters such as education, marriage, and occupation. But none is as transcending as that which affects our soul's eternity (Matt. 16:26).

"Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?"

Luke 9:23-25
