Planning For The Work

I’m excited about the plans that are being made for next year and appreciative that the elders have given consideration and thought to the work and growth of Timberland. Church growth doesn’t happen by accident.  I am also excited about the events themselves.  I am convinced that if we take advantage of them, they will be spiritually good for you and me and give us opportunities to reach others with the gospel. The elders have asked that I share with you some of the plans and the rationale behind them.  We have three reasons for doing so: 1) We want you to know of these events now, so you can begin to plan your other activities around them. 2) We want to share our excitement with you; we want you not only to  know about these events, but to be excited about them, to look forward to them, and to prepare for them. 3) We want to encourage your fellowship in the work that is planned here at Timberland Drive.

A Question About God and Evil

We read in Isaiah 45:7: "I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am Jehovah, that doeth all these things." This verse raises the question: did God actually create only good?

God's original creation was very good (Gen. 1:31). Also, we are told that God "cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man" (Jas. 1:13). Since God is moral (sinless), moral evil is contrary to His very nature. God, then, does not create moral evil.

I recently viewed a video on “You tube”; the video opened with an older gentlemen turning on his car radio just as the radio announcer gave news of some teens being arrested for defacing a monument erected in tribute to soldiers who had given their lives in the line of duty.  As the announcer finished the story, the older man’s grandsons entered the car.  Seeing his grandfather staring at the radio in dismay, one of the grandsons asked, “Grandpa, is something wrong?”  The grandfather answered, “Some people sure have short memories, and those who are too young to know need to be taught.  Come on, I want to show you guys something.”  They drove to what appeared to have been an old movie theater where someone was putting up a marquee that read, “Welcome Veterans.”

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

No question is more important than this. We make many important decisions in life regarding matters such as education, marriage, and occupation. But none is as transcending as that which affects our soul's eternity (Matt. 16:26).

"Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?"
